Truth and Rumors?

1) Those two things usually don't always together, especially these days! Since the start of the season we have read about/heard any number of 'hot rumors' of a big deal about to go down. With the exception of some minor deals, no 'block busters' have occurred. Why?
2) The answer is VERY simple. Its the salary cap, stupid. About 2/3 of the teams in the league currently are so close to the cap max that they can do little in the way of major player move. One source who is in management told FAUXRUMORS last night that its almost impossible to move a big contract(he said anything more than 2 mil/year) to another team before at least two thirds or three quarters of it has already been paid. Meaning don't expect huge deals before the trade deadline.
3) Which leads us to ask, why so many rumors if this is true? Another easy answer, Rumors sell!! Not only the rumor bloggers who charge for 'insider info', but even more pervasive and influential, the print and electronic media. Which reap huge ratings when a tasty rumor is circulated. Some 'journalists' even admit to doing this. With the cap in essence strangulating most possible deals, the writers and broadcasters have been left with much less in factual rumors, and have resorted to creating them.
4) However, although almost everyone already knows this is the case, it will likely continue. One prominent hockey writer who we called, but didn't want his name used, said his editor expects him to 'suggest' at least one possible deal each week when he writes his column. Its been shown that 'folks eat that crap up. So we give them what they want'.
5) For every Thornton deal, there have been literally hundreds of proposed(rumored) deals written about/mentioned during broadcasts. Since it sells don't expect this to change. As a non profit entity FAUXRUMORS does NOT need to create a rumor d'jour, but will only continue to convey credible information from impeccable sources as they are recieved.

So when is the trade deadline? How close to it will it take for teams to finally make a deal?

Thanks for regurgitating exactly what about another 100 sports sites have said about the lack of trades this year!

The fact that teams have not consumated deals does not mean they are not chatting and not trying to make deals, just that the salary cap is tricky!

Thanks for making this 'Rumors' site all about everything else but rumors!

From what i have read what faux has said is true. i see many rumor written about almost every day. I'm not sure what the nut is talking about
what i like about faux is that he is honest with us

Kevin Lowe was quoted in an Edmonton Paper on the weekend saying there is more GM talk now then there has been in a long time. He said the hold up is that teams are asking too much and several teams are looking for the same piece allowing the asking price to be high.

The salary cap can explain why some big names haven't moved, but it doesn't explain why some midrange salary players haven't.

All you have to do is look at what players teams ask about when you talk trade to see the challenge...

ANd what is with Faux trying to get all credible on us? Why start now?

Yes I love Faux's honesty...

Like when he made up his conversation with a Russian mob boss, or when he claimed to have scooped everyone on several trades and signings only to have it later proven that the same information was available on such obscure sites as SI.com, GlobeandMail.com, ESPN.com and prosportsdaily.com and local newspaper websites.

Yes...Faux exudes honest!

But wouldn't expect much more when you post comments to your own blog in support of yourself now would be FAUX?

1) Firstly thanks 'truth' for your kind words.
2) We knew when we were writing this post that some, well one, would jump at the fact that what we were writing was NOT a scoop. We never claimed that it was.
3) We felt it was our duty as one of the fastest growing Internet hockey blogs to be forth right with our readers.
4) We get e-mails everyday that usually go something like: Hey Faux, is (insert team name here) going to make a deal soon?
5) While other blogs and almost ALL newspapers have been inundated with a plethora of rumors. Some down right silly/laughable, we have resisted repeating them here
6) As this is NOT soly a rumor blog there is plenty of other issues to discuss besides fabricated news/rumors.

The amount of rumor content on tv and newspapers and online is definitly overwhelming. I have to agree faux most of it is to keep us reading or watching. I'm beginning to tune out when i hear about a rumor. even when its about my team

so forsberg is not getting moved today then??? sorry boys lighten up...the cap sux, add to that that the teams that want to make a deal at this point in the year want to make deal because they are struggling, they are therefore not dealing from a posistion of strength..phx well every gm wants ballard or doan, chicago gms are licking their chops for seabrook. the struggling teams want to move dead wood, usually with hefty contracts, where as the the teams they want to deal with are more content to look at cheaper, younger up and comers...its not easy this early on to swing a deal.

1) We think Gretzky said much the same yesterday Pinko. Paraphrasing: The players we want to trade no one wants, the ones we don't everyone wants.
2) We don't have any specific stats, but we believe what 'Police squad' said about an increase in the sheer amount of rumors out there has to be accurate
3) The Internet makes it much easier to post a rumor, and then they travel at light speed across the ethosphere. So a silly rumor conjured up in Edmonton this morning, is in every corner of the hockey world before lunch
4) Its the New world/New NHL. We just will have to get accustomed to it.

1) It usually takes a number of days for a FAUXRUMORS prediction/assessment to be proven true, but here we are shown vivid proof of what was written about earlier today: http://www.canuckscorner.com/weblog/intheroom/archives/2006/11/rumors_and_more.php
2) Here a reporter ADMIYTS to being a source/hoax of a conjured up rumor. Great job FAUXRUMORS!

1. Ladies and gentlemen, let's put our hands together and welcome Frank Drebbin, aka Enrico Palazzo, to the Faux blog. Now this should prove to all of you, that this site is for enjoyment. As I always say, relax everybody.

2. Oh hey Pinko, I can't let this one go. "Its Sheldon Souray in OT with :01 left on the clock."

3. Habs take it to Buffalo - its a great day in Montreal!

Ok, its time for me to fess up here. Pinko, you are 100% right regarding Souray. He's been a bum defensively for many years - there's absolutely no secret about that. But, can't we all just watch and enjoy these BIG goals he's scoring? Like I've said before, its amusing to see his name on the scoresheet and on the ESPN ticker on a nightly basis.

In the meantime, I will continue to remind you of his offensive exploits.
