1) From watching several games and perusing over the box scores of the many games around the league last night, what struck us was that officials were apparently instructed to keep a keen eye on 'divers'.
2) There could be no coincidence that this sudden increase in calling the 'unsportsmanlike conduct-diving' penalty' on the heels of the Blake-Crosby incident alluded to in our previous post.
3) We called a well placed NHL official/source to see if our suspicions were accurate. Sure enough NHL head official Stephen Walkom made a conference call to all the league's referees early yesterday afternoon to inform them that the NHL wanted them to be "extra vigilant" about possible diving, and to enforce the rule closely. No word if this policy will be short lived or a trend for the remainder of the season, but divers have now been put on notice(again); do it at your and your team's own risk!

Wow, 2 Diving calls in one night!? Sure sounds like a giant league wide crackdown to me!

Perhaps before you speak you should actually look through the boxscores.

And now...back to Ek!

1) Great to have another Eklund automaton contribute to the site. LOL
2) If his site is so great, why the need to even come here for another (unique) point of view?
3) Great to have ya aboard.

Actually my reference was meant to imply that I would rather read Ek than this inaccurate dribble. I do not attend to Eks boring discussions of mythical events nor do I plan to attend to further torture by reading such an inaccurate blog.

First beyond the fact that 2 diving calls in 11 games hardly makes for a crackdown...I recall a couple games a couple weeks ago with 2 diving calls in 1 game.

Second, the NHL meets with every game official the morning after the games via internet video conference and at that time plays video clips from calls the night before and discusses how things are currently being called and whether they are the standard they wish...not sure why they wouldn't just address it then.

Third, the Referees work in concert with the NHL teams. They meet with the team prior to the game and discuss the calling of the game. This is an extensive but short meeting that can often include video clips. Now if the 22 teams that were in action last night had these meetings the refs would have passed it on to the teams.

Finally, if the teams know it is of course easily passed on to the broadcastors who in the past have mentioned previous NHL referee directives during their broadcasts.

But I am sure once again this is a big NHL conspiracy to obtain some weird goal...

1) What kind of "mythical events" does Eklund have? Sounds interesting.
2)Also curious why that site would need to be referenced here? WE didn't mention it/him in our post If that site it is as bad as you say, why go there in the first place?
3) Perhaps as an self proclaimed expert, you should begin your own 'accurate' blog and can debunk the 'conspiracies' for your readers

Again thanks for contributing to the discussion.

Wow, nice treatment you give to new readers. I can see why people call this the fastest dying hockey blog on the internet.

I won't be stopping by anymore.

a. Hey Kirkland, how could you possibly conclude that this is a coincidence? - as if league officials DON'T instruct referees to "crack down" on certain aspects of the game... Ek should be VERY proud to have you on board...

b. And, by the way, the word is DRIVEL... And yes, Faux can be proficient in drivel from time to time, just NOT with regard to this issue...

1) Hey there Kirk, we believe we weren't abusive to ya or your views in any way. Despite you taking shots at us we were polite in response
2) Unlike Antz who took exception to your spelling errors we only discussed the content of your posting.
3) You did fail to respond to the queries we offered to ya in our last response to ya
