1) It was a LONG over due celebration of one the game's all time great goalies when the Montreal Canadians finally celebrated and retired ole # 29 the other night. Dryden was frequently overlooked and not given the due he earned because many at the time felt his team was great due to an amazingly strong roster and masterfully coached by Scotty Bowman.
2) However, those of us who can recall watching hockey from the old Forum know differently. Sure those teams featured an array of Hall of Famers, but then, like now, without a great goalie, a team can not truly be 'great'. Dryden used his huge frame to his advantage. Playing the angles as good as anyone before or since.
3) Now that Ken's # 29 is in the rafters, it makes another over site all the more egregious. When will Larry Robinson get his night? If it is already planned, we apologize to the Habs organization. If it is not, we have to ask, no scream, why????

the habs have another couple of jersies to retire on their run up to their 100th anversery, i believe big bird will be the next hab honored, followed closely by the likes of roy, then maybe gainey, or 'butch' bouchard.
I have some very fond memories of the days when Mr. Dryden roamed the crease at The Forum.
He was also quite an engaging, bright, and intelligent chap to share conversation. I wish him the best!
Serge Savard - YES... Larry Robinson - NO... I think its safe to say that the Montreal orgnaization needs to update the banners in the rafters...
Serge Savard was already honored earlier this year....emile 'butch' bouchard, has a bit of a cult following among many in the elder statesmen class of the french media..who have been making a bit of a push for butch for awhile now...big bird will be the next to have his number retired, he was the pronger of his generation, and a huge part of the dominating habs teams of the 70's... he belongs there with the flower, dryden, savard et al.
