1)In another pre Christmas trade freeze deadline deal, the N.Y. Islanders have dealt underachieving center Mike York to the Flyers in exchange for forward Randy Robitaille and a mid round pick.
2) The deal makes sense ONLY for the Isles. York, as was mentioned in a recent post here, has disappointed Islander brass with his production(or lack there of) considering his salary (2.8 mil) he was a cap drain. We didn't believe anyone would take on his salary and if anything the Isles might try to waive him like the Flyers did with Nedved.
3) Why the Flyers would pick up his salary AND give up 2 other assets is curious. For all intents and purposes the Flyers are NOT going to the post season. York is a free agent after this year. There doesn't appear to be a reason to get him. We're sure our Flyer readers are as perplexed about this deal as they were about the Zhitnik trade last week. Meanwhile in a space of 6 days the Islanders have shed almost 5 million from their cap. Giving them significant flexibility to add a player or two at the deadline.

I agree with Jmol, what a great couple of moves by Snow! Any word if someone like a St. Louis is possibly going to the Isles?
I thought these kinds of horribly one-sided deals only happened in my fantasy football league and not real professional sports leagues. Not that I'm complaining, but what are the Flyers thinking? Maybe we can trade them Sparky the Dragon next?
Has Mike Milbury been hired by the Flyers?
1) OK, here are some answers: No, no truth to the rumor that Mike Milbury has secretly been hired by the Flyers! If he had, we're sure that a few first rounders would have gone the isles way in addition to the other assets traded
2) We haven't heard about any Tampa bay trade. If they should fall out of the race (they are 5 points out of 8th as of now) it is possible.
3) No, these trades weren't made via the EA Sports NHL 2007. These are REAL! LOL
Why are the Islanders wasting their time with the likes of Mayer and Robitaille? Quite possibly, in this LOSER atmosphere that is gripping the city of Philadelphia, Simon Gagne could have been lured away - Snow could offer SHatan and a silly draft pick... WOW Faux, aren't YOU the one who picked the Flyers for first in the division? Nice job...
No, Sparky can backcheck, and therefore commands more of a return than York, Murph.
hate to tell y'all but the islanders will regret this trade!
The Flyer boards have been mostly negative about these trades. I personally don't know why we needed to get these guys. I'd prefer we suck and get the best draft pick
where is dave schultz when ya need him?
The Nigga? AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
Hey.. pap schmere...just how are the Islanders going to regret this trade? York has basically been invisible all year.
