Goalie Insurance

1) With the Christmas trading freeze set to ice over any possibility of a trade in the remainder of 2006, the rumor mills are sure to start to churn out some doozies. Among the popular rumored deals will involve a variety of 'excess', or talented back up goalies.
2) Among these, Marty Biron in Buffalo, Vesa Toskala in SJ, Ilya Bryzgalov as the first string of potential goalie trade bait. Add to that several others who have been mentioned repeatedly as possible trade bait due to their teams' poor start. However, for this piece we will concentrate on back ups on teams with Cup aspirations
2) We at FAUXRUMORS believe that neither of the 3 teams mentioned should entertain any offers for their talented, but not quite good enough to start goalies. For example; Even if Buffalo might lose Biron for potentially nothing to free agency after this season, we believe that possibility is far out weighed by the possible loss of starter Ryan Miller to injury after the trade deadline. (See Ottawa/Edmonton) Both of those teams lost their starter at inopportune times last season, and their second string were not up to the task of carrying the team, thus eliminating their Cup runs.
3) We believe those teams have savvy enough GM's to have seen what can happen without a starter who can be relied upon. With the earlier trade deadline of February 27th, teams will have much less time to patch up holes, or add pieces in anticipation for a playoff run. Teams that have fallen out of the playoff hunt, or have lost a major skater to injury are another matter. However there are very few teams that are truly out of it, so at this relatively early date we don't anticipate a flurry of activity before Santa's ride, especially for a back up goalie.

Hey faux, what about a team like nashville who's goalie Tomas Vokoun was lost last year? You forgot about them! He's hurt again now. Wouldn't they want to get a more reliable back up than mason?
Or Detroit could be this years ottawa with Hasek. Their back up Osgood is hurt now! Imagine fans in Detroit going to the playoffs with Joey McDonald as the starter?

I don't know where to post this as there is no forum for it, but it appears that the rumor whore NAILED the Bondra to Chicago rumor. Ek 1 Faux 0...

faux rumors said...

1) Um, Ek posted the move to Chicago AFTER it was all over other media outlets!
2) If he had written it a day or week before we would be impressed. We're STILL waiting for him to get one trade BEFORE it occurs

Unknown said...

Ek put the rumor up on Dec 4th. Still waiting for Leetch to sign with Tampa...

faux rumors said...

1) OK, please confirm this. Send along the link and we'll allow you to publish this to confirm your allegation that on 12/4/06 Eklund stated that Bondra would be a hawk.
2) If what you say can be corroborated, we will give him credit for getting this one earlier than most

1) Good call Trotz, we forgot about Nashville (as a lot of folks do), but their goaltending problem(s) were/are s bad as any of the examples we gave in our original post
2) They could use some additional depth at the position, and we wouldn't be surprised to see them try to add another tender before the February deadline

Joseph said...

Nashville signed Michael Leighton a coupla weeks ago..neither he or Mason are allstars, but they are a good stop gap until Vokoun gets healthy...what about T.O??...the Laffs aren't too happy with Raycroft right now.

faux rumors said...

1) Hey, luv2paintball why don't you enable folks to view your profile? This kinda gives a little insite into a poster.
2) Not intimate details, but at least knows how long you've been posting, etc. Just a bit curious

faux rumors said...

1) Yes, the Toronto faithful are not all too happy with Raycroft.
2) Nether of their backups are NHL callibre in our opinion. You can be sure Buffalo won't be parting with Biron to TO!
3) If they could get a hold of one of the california backups they would be significantly improved, BUT Raycroft has a long term deal!

As for why I don't enable my profile, what do you want to know that my profile could tell you? All the bloggers profiles on here are all bull$hit anyways...

Unknown said...

BTW, Toronto not happy with Raycroft is not really the case. Their defence is letting them down and their PK is brutal of late. How many of the goals hes let in recently were on the PK? Don't expect a move in TO...

faux rumors said...

1) In that post he mentions 4 other teams incuding Chicago. Sorry, very few pats on the back for that.
2) Add to that the 10 or so other posts he's made on the subject since the season started, naming about 15 other teams in the hunt for Bondra, its hardly note worthy.
3) Even a stopped clock is correct twice a day.

faux rumors said...

1) We agree that TO will NOT make a move for a tender. However most of that has to do with cap restrictions, NOT their like/dislike of Raycroft

faux rumors said...

1) We're not looking for your name/address etc, but many without a profile are hiding something.
2) Most inportant thing we guess would be HOW LONG you've been around.
3) We agree folks can say whatever they want on the profile. The start date though is difficult to make up

Unknown said...

How long have I been around? I've been posting on faux's site since his Leetch to Tampa blog. Curious. Why does this matter?...

faux rumors said...

1) How long have you been posting? You have opnly been posting on this and OTHER BLOGS for a 6 days?

faux rumors said...

1) P.S. Only matters in that there have been some folks who created new identities just to post here.
2) That ofcourse is fine/their prerogative, but is telling/shows their credibility

Antzmarching said...

A. Faux, I happen to agree with point number 3... It makes a great deal of sense these days to have an adequate tandem... Think about what happens to New Jersey if Marty goes down...

B. Buffalo doesn't NEED to do anything with Biron... The insurance he provides is a wonderful safety net come playoff time... San Jose and Anaheim may also be in the same position...

C. I believe the Rangers are a team that has Stanley Cup potential, but are limited in that if King Hank gets injured or hits the second half slump again, they won't advance... Weekes, in my opinion, is highly unreliable... Incidentally, he gets traded/let go frequently due to his inconsistent play, NOT his sexual proclivities - just thought I'd throw IHATEWEEKES a bone there...

Unknown said...

Yes I created a new "identity" to post on here because I've never posted on a blogspot before. This along with the rumor whore's site are the only two hockey blogs I post on...

faux rumors said...

1) Sounds fine to us. BTW paintball, what name do you post under on the Eklund site?

Unknown said...

Whipper...

Didn't think you would ever give Ek a pat on the back for anything...

He certainly did 1-up you on this...since you never had anything about Bondra ever...

As for your assertion that he made 10 or so posts about it naming about 15 teams is completely INACCURATE! Now I am typically the last person to ever credit an insider...but here are the facts...

1. Since October 15th Ek has mentioned specific teams that Bondra is looking at 3 (three times) including his December 4th post.

2. In total Ek identified 8 teams as potential desitinations.

Now naming 8 teams and having it come true isn't that impressive...BUT naming 4 (3 coded E3) just 4 days before the contract is signed and having 1 of those 4 come true is worth more than you gave...(though certainly not worth $20/year).

Interestingly in an interview with Sportsnet (not allowed to give you a link or I would) Bondra stated that there were "2 other serious offers on the table but that Chicago seemed to be the best opportunity for him."

Hate to say it...but Ek seems to have 1-upped you on this one...

Wow faux. You either have a serious case of tourettes syndrome or you forget to log off at work and one of your co-workers is having a little too much fun. Either way, Nutz makes some good points. Ek nailed this one...

Unknown said...

Yes...classy post Faux!

You know it is one thing to have a difference of opinion...another to go on with obscenities and name calling towards me...

But then again I didn't expect much more!

faux rumors said...

1)Tourettes? You lost us with that comment
2) We didn't.have never used 'obscenities' toward anyone on here.
3) Appears as if Mr Nutz has created another name to use to try to disparage us without using his own.
4 You seem to forget our friend that no matter the screen name you use the IP address is still the same. Please refrain from the nonsense and keep the discussion to hockey or related topics

Yes try to turn your 'Faux Pas' back onto me...

Here is what I know...

The obscenity laced comment was from user 'fauxrumors'. It wasn't any variation of that...it was EXACTLY 'fauxrumors'. Clicking on it loaded YOUR profile.

Doesn't really matter much to me...I could care less what you think of me. You lack any sort of credibility...and have been caught in repeated lies on your own blog...

And don't make claims about IP addresses that simply are not true...you accuse me of making up that post by claiming the IP address is the same...I know it isn't because I didn't make the post in question...and besides Blogger does not have a feature to track IP addresses for Bloggers and you have no ThirdParty tracker in your source code...So quit making defamatory claims that have no basis in reality

Feel free to harbour your ill feelings towards me...it doesn't really bother me...I can take it!

faux rumors said...

1) we have no intention of getting into another urinating contest with you. Your track record at creating bogus identities known to all our readers here
2) When you got caught with your pants down(By responding to one of your own posts and forgetting to change your identity) it cemented your credibility to everyone who was on the fence before.
3) Yes, IP addresses do not lie, but you do!

Hilarious!

Say hi to Stacey Schnell and Police Squad for me!

Yea...I create fake identitities! Sure!

I have a screen shot of that blog post...it is one thing to create fake identities and post but this one was clearly "fauxrumors"...and nothing else!

1) We allow our readers to reply for themselves. Whether they are who they say or not is no never mind to us.
2) However as we said, IP addresses no not lie, you do!
